COVID-19 Latest Information for Carers

Health experts recommend wearing face masks in areas where transmission is high or when physical distancing is not possible.

NSW Health issued an updated resource for COVID-19 symptom identification. They also updated information about COVID-19 testing, which covers a directory of COVID-19 testing clinics.

Information for carers of older people

NSW released advice on 11 September 2020 for aged care facilities. The advice contained a continuous implementation of visitor restriction measures in Sydney, Central Coast, and Nepean Blue Mountains. It also outlined the importance of wearing masks for aged care facility staff.

There was an update about accessing Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) services during the pandemic. The fact sheet includes information necessary for carers, clients, and families on how they could access mental health support services and home service supports.

The Australian Government Department of Health issued resources for the public and industry about the COVID-19 pandemic. These includes:

·   CHSP Emergency Funding

·   CHSP Flexibility Provisions

·   Other support programs

Residents of an aged care home who recently transitioned to the community are eligible for accessing Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). The Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) can provide relevant information for residents and their families about the eligibility requirements for support services. However, it should be noted that the program is not permanent. For residents who opt to remain in the community, they should access the My Aged Care Home Care Package.

Also, new data of COVID-19 infections in residential aged care facilities was released by the Department of Health. This provides better accessibility and transparency for their families.

Information for carers of people with disabilities

NSW Health continues to support people with vision and hearing impairments. The document can be accessed through the Department of Health Website.

NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission also released a fact sheet about the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that providers and staff alike are taking measures and precautions at work. This includes:

·   Preparation for an outbreak

·   Response to COVID-19 cases

·   Managing localised COVID-19 outbreak
