New Carer Regional Delivery Services Launched in Australia

New Carer Regional Delivery Services Launched in Australia

Published By Newly , 4 years ago

The regional delivery of the new Integrated Carer Support Services was announced on 21 August 2019.

This is a product of a four-year consultation procedure involving different organisations giving services to carers in Australia. The procedure also included an extensive survey of caregivers in Australia as well.

According to the CEO of Carers Australia, Ara Cresswell, the 16 new Regional Delivery Partners aimed to create efficient coordination with the delivery of a suite of carer services across the country through geographically fair, traversable and less fragmented basis.

She added that the point of entry of carers would be single in their respective regions. This will allow their needs, access to in-person counselling, in-person coaching, and in-person support. Matters such as assistance for carer plans development, emergency respite, and financial packages shall be provided for their benefit.

Cresswell elaborated that they understand that the transition to the new proposed model will not be easy because carers who are receiving services from providers disposed to change new things, may have not been a successful tender. However, it is assumed that these caregivers could be in the transition to new providers especially when they recognise that they could have a greater range of support than before. Some will be able to access the said services for the first time.

The new Regional Deliver Partners is set to begin by April 2020 and the current service providers shall ensure the continuity of support to the carers while the transition is taking place.

The initiative is also a part of a reform proposed by the Morrison Government for the benefit of 2.7 million carers in Australia. To completely satisfy the transition, a $493 million funding will be allotted to establish a new network of 16 different Carer Gateway service providers which is only a fragment of the Morrison Government’s commitment of allotting $700 million for the nation’s unpaid carers. The proposed model would also invoke increased funding from $44 million to $65 million in the first year to $77 million after five years.

According to the Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston, the creation of the new service program can help in stress reduction, resilience building and enhanced coping with the challenges of being a carer. She added that the program would expand the opportunities for new carers as well as those who are coming back to the service.
