DIPLOMA OF COMMUNITY SERVICES CHC52015

This qualification reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in the managing, coordinating and/or delivering of person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities.

At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously under broad directions from senior management. Workers are usually providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals. Workers may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers and/or case management; program coordination or the development of new business opportunities.

Note that the Statutory & forensic child, youth & family welfare specialisation must be achieved in order to meet the minimum education requirements for child protection and youth justice practice in Victoria. In addition, to meet the minimum education requirements for entry into child protection practice in Victoria, diploma qualifications must be approved by the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA)

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 100 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Students who undertake this qualification will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to work with people and assist them in seeking solutions to a range of personal and social issues using person-centred approaches. Community service workers engage with people at different stages in their lives from children and teens through to seniors.

Depending on the electives chosen, this qualification may lead to the positions of:

  • Behavioural support officer
  • Community services worker
  • Family support worker
  • Client services manager
  • Community development officer
  • Service manager

COURSE CONTENT Available Units

This course consists of 16 units of competence, 8 units of competence which are core and 8 units of competence which are elective. A combination of electives that meets the packaging rules has been chosen to result in the award of the Diploma of Community Services.

All students undertaking Diploma in Community Services are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of work placement in a recognised facility. You should be aware that you will not qualify for CHC52015 Diploma in Community Services unless this work placement is completed. Work Placement will be arranged by Astute Training Pty Ltd in conjunction with the student during the course of study.

Entry Requirements / Prerequisites
Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

In accordance with the National Code 2018, Astute Training Pty Ltd places students in the courses most appropriate to their level and goals.

All students are expected to have reached an acceptable level of proficiency in the English language. International students need an IELTS level of 5.5 or higher or have completed an approved English Test listed below.

The IELTS provided must have been taken no more than two years before the time of the application.
From 5 November 2011, the department will accept test results from the following specified English language tests for Student visa purposes taken in any country:

Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-Based test (TOEFL iBT)
Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test (also known as Certificate in Advanced English).
