About North and West Remote Health (NWRH)

This dynamic and evolving organisation continues to break new ground in the provision of direct health services and preventative health programs and is a leading advocate for rural and remote health care.

Your new career awaits!

NWRH is currently seeking an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse to join our Aged Care Hostel on Mornington Island, on a full-time basis.

Suitable candidates will have the option of working on a four (4) or six (6) weeks on (dependent on the applicant), and one (1) week off rotation, with paid flights in and out of Cairns or Townsville, if preferable.

Reporting to the Facility Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day delivery of quality care, lifestyle and accommodation for NWRH residents and community aged care clients. You will also be required to support the managerial functions in the Facility Manager's absence.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing nursing care to care recipients, in the Residential Aged Care Facility in accordance with the relevant funding contracts and aged care quality frameworks;
  • Ensuring client care, kitchen, cleaning, laundry and maintenance activities are performed efficiently, effectively and in accordance with relevant standards and budget;
  • Taking active involvement in the intake of new residents to the facility, ensuring they and their families understand their rights and responsibilities as well as NWRH’s responsibilities and obligations; and
  • Working in accordance with systems and processes that support accreditation standards for residential and community aged care service delivery; and
  • Supporting quality improvement activities.

Whilst only a relatively small, 15 bed facility, the challenges of being based in a remote area mean that the level of responsibility and volume of work required in this position is similar to that of a large facility. As such, this position would be best suited to someone looking for that type of role.

Who are we looking for?

To be considered for this position you will be an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse with current AHPRA registration, considerable post-graduate experience and a current C Class Driver's licence.

Ideally you will have experience specifically working in aged care, however we encourage applications from candidates without this, providing you have lived and/or worked in a remote community.

Critical to your success in this role will be the ability to function at a very high level in isolated surroundings.  You will have good time management skills and be resilient and able to demonstrate flexibility in your approach to clinical care, with an understanding of the challenges that come from living and working in remote Aboriginal communities.

Importantly, you will need to have an aptitude for, and a desire to provide leadership to a group of people from diverse cultural backgrounds. You will be an empathetic communicator with the ability to engage, and build relationships with the community and internal stakeholders.

Why join us?

Whether you are looking for a change of scenery, a new adventure or a chance to give back to the community, this is an opportunity to make a real and valuable contribution, whilst gaining invaluable remote healthcare experience

The successful candidate will receive an attractive salary circa $68,353 plus super, commensurate with skills and experience.

A further range of fantastic benefits will also be provided, to increase your take-home pay including:

  • Accommodation and electricity paid for by NWRH whilst on the Island
  • 5 weeks annual leave;
  • A 4 or 6 week on, 1 week off roster (which combined with annual leave equates to almost 3 months leave per year)
  • Salary sacrificing options up to $15,900; and
  • Opportunities for career progression post probation

This is a rare opportunity to live and work in one of the most unique and untouched locations in all of Australia.

If you are an EEN who is restless with your current day-to-day, and looking for a role that challenges you in a highly rewarding way - don't wait, Apply Now!

About Mornington Island

Around 28km off the coast of Mainland Australia, Mornington Island is the largest of 22 islands that form the Wellesley Island Group. Its largest town, Gununa, is serviced by regular passenger flights from Mt Isa and Cairns, and a barge operation from Karumba, on the mainland, brings weekly supplies to the island.

The islands and surrounding seas are the traditional lands and waters of the Lardil, Yangkaal, Kaiadilt and Gangalidda peoples. Home to approximately 800 residents, it remains one of the most pristine regions in the world; featuring internationally renowned artworks, rich cultural heritage and harmonious multicultural (predominately Indigenous Australian) communities. It's also one of the best fishing destinations in Australia.

Mornington Island is a dry community, so no alcohol is permitted.
