Mind
Produced in partnership with the London Clinical Networks, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Wessex Academic Science Network.

This training session will help you to understand how different conditions impact on cognition and wellbeing. The session will help in understanding which conditions fall under frailty and what key areas to address within a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) for psychological aspects.

At the end of this session you will be able to:

  • recognise the different conditions that impact the cognitive and psychological wellbeing of an individual
  • identify the conditions that fall under the frailty syndromes related to Mind
  • identify key areas to address within the CGA under psychological aspects
  • identify what to look out for and next steps

Most parts of the body work less well as people get older and this is true of the brain. It is a process that starts at birth and continues throughout life. It happens differently for everyone due to genetics, lifestyle and environment. Neurons (nerve cells) in the brain are not damaged, but they are working slower and less efficiently than in earlier life. It is not caused by a disease and does not involve neurodegeneration or damage to neurons.
