Living and working in GP jobs, Practice Nurse jobs in Regional ACT

Beyond Canberra, lies an untamed landscape of mountain slopes and bushland, home to more cattle and sheep, than people. This rustic landscape is broken up by abundant vineyards. The regional confines of the Australian Capital Territory lie in striking contrast to its precisely planned capital city of Canberra.

Regional ACT covers a land area of 1544 square kilometres and has a resident population of about 200,000. The economic region integrates the areas of New South Wales to the immediate north, east and south of the Australian Capital Territory. Agriculture and forestry constitute the largest industry exports. Public administration and safety is the biggest employment sector, followed by Healthcare and Social Assistance with about 9365 jobs, constituting 11.8% of the workforce.

Almost all educational institutions in the ACT are located in Canberra. Australian National University and the University of Canberra are the two main tertiary institutions. The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) provides vocational education through its 4 campuses.

The ACT region is well-connected through Canberra, by road, rail and air, and is within easy driving distance of Sydney, while getting to or from Melbourne is a 7-hour drive. Regional ACT has an array of bushland, parks, attractions, events, heritage, culture and cuisine on offer. A visit to the colourful bordering river city of Queanbeyan is a must. At Molonglo Gorge, a part of the Murrumbidgee catchment, you can swim, fish, water ski, walk or have a soothing riverside picnic. The region has 33 parks and reserves including Namadgi National Park, at the northern end of the Australian Alps.

The median house price is a steep $592,000 and the median rent at $513 is also high. But the region is a perfect place to get up close and personal with nature, soak up the sunshine and explore the many native wonders sitting right on one’s doorstep.
