Living and working in GP jobs, Practice Nurse jobs in Regional Tasmania

Tasmania is a magical place of diverse beauty with spectacular natural features, rich in contemporary art, Aboriginal culture and convict history. Journeying through the landscape takes you past tranquil rivers, giant forests, rolling hills and valleys, rugged mountain wilderness, patchwork agricultural hinterland, dramatic coastlines, spectacular national parks, abundant wildlife, quaint townships, vineyard country, bountiful orchards and scenic pastures – it’s in the regions that the essence of Tasmania emerges and mesmerizes. Tasmania is divided into three regions

  • North-western Tasmania – stunning national parks, nature reserves, mountains and forests.
  • Northern Tasmania – Heritage estates, rich farmland, premium wines and mountain biking.
  • Southern Tasmania – home to the state’s capital Hobart and a hub of art, heritage, wilderness, waterways and wildlife.

Tasmania’s land area is 68,401 square kilometres, 42% of which of which is covered by national parks and reserves. Agricultural land occupies 28% of the land area. Only about 25% of Tasmania’s population, around 130,000 people, live in small towns, villages and regional dwellings. The main industries driving the economy are agriculture, forestry, fishing, tourism and mining. Healthcare and Social Assistance is the largest employment sector with 30,600 people or 14.2% of the workforce. The University of Tasmania is the largest educational institution, with campuses in Launceston, Hobart and Burnie. TasTAFE offers vocational education across multiple locations within Tasmania.
