If the 2019 elections went differently, Chris Bowen could be the treasurer in charge of dealing with Australia’s current economic crisis.
Instead, he had a role as a shadow minister, continuously challenging the government’s management of health issues across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bowen addressed the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission for its seemingly failed attempt to deal with the problems of the aged care sector.
He pointed out that the failure of the regulatory board to deal with specific outbreaks such as in St. Basil’s was a clear manifestation of its negligence.
He added that the incapability of the regulator to instill inspections of aged care facilities made it more concerning. With this, they should be held accountable for their acts.
Bowen said that as a parliamentarian, it is important to have an adequate explanation for the shortcomings of the regulator, to at least compensate for all the drawbacks it caused.
